hey,
Im not sure whats going on in my tank at the mo, i am in the middle of treating the tank for ICH after seeing the fish rubbing up against the plants and logs.
every since the first dose (2 days ago) my platties have seemed very lathargic, not swiming much and spending most of there time hideing.
This morning i did a water change (25%) and added the 2nd dose of ICH treatment. since then on the male plattie has been getting ruff with 1 particular female plattie actually trying to attack it.

the only other thing i could think of is the addition of extra fish has changed their behaviour, we recently put 1 gibbi, 1 spotted talking catfish and 1 betta in the tank, these have all been fine with no worring behaviour.

tank lvl ammonia 0 nitrite 0.50 (tested before water change today)

The new fish could be the problem?

Are you actually sure the tank has ICH? Because if not the medication could be annoying them.

I know 1 thing for sure, never add new fish if the tank has some sort of illness. How often are you feeding them?

no not at all sure. it was all on advise from either this forum or a local shop.
basicaly we had a fatality (not sure why) followed by 1 then 2 of our platties rubbing against the plants, rocks and logs.
what do you suggest?

You will see white spots on the fish if it got ich. Look at the fish and see if anything could be irritating their skins.

feeding once a day either flakes or bloodworm (alternating) and a small amount cat fish pellets around the cats hideout

i have checked, there are no white spots. the fish in question have silvery looking scales in patches that were not there a few days prior to them rubbing against things.

Anyway you could get us a pic? I've never heard of anything causing silver scales. How are the scales surrounding the silver scales? Are the fish acting different?

so if this is a miss diagnosis will the treatment hurt the fish or is it just anoying the hell otta them? as im half way through i may as well continue through to the end. Besides this stuff recomends putting in with every new addition if you dont have quarentene tank, which i dont. (yet) so it cant be that bad can it?

In ordre for me to answer that question accurately, I need to know the meds. Basically, don't give the fish meds unless you have to.

not acting to diff, apart from the flashing (if thats what its called)
cant get a pick no digi cam.
imagine a bucket of oil, put in a drop of water, the shine produced is what the scales look like.
a sort of mix of colours but not the norm, its not all over the body just in patches and its on diffrent places on both the fish.

Malachite green? Don't add that unless you have to. Causes stress to the fish and can irritate scaleless fish's skin. If the fish can tolerate salt, I'd recommend doing a large water change and adding salt. That's a good allround treatment for me. So the scales are like a redish ranbow like color? Have you accidently put anything with oil in the water?

not red, just kinda like the oil thing, the shiny reflection you would get if the sun caught the water in the oil. sorry its a rubbish description but its the only way i can think to explain it.
i guess that green stuff would drive my little fishies to a madening frenzy then?
ps no not added anything oily,

How long have they had this? Is it spreading U think? Does the coloration appear on top of or below the skin?
