Ok i bought a little frog yesturday. Yeah me 2 Betta mom! lol I didnt buy him cause he was in a dirty tank but wanted a suitable companion for my little vt i have in a one gallon. All my bettas are in a 20 gallon except him and he looked sad. So i put him in with the females first to see if they would be nice. Yeah bad idea. I didnt even bother putting it in with the male. So then i put him in my community tank. But then i took him out cause i remembered he might eat the fry. So now hes in a one gallon on his own. Idk if hes eating cause he looked pretty skinny when i got him. If he likes his home i want to get him some buddies. So first i have to know if hes a ADF or CF heres some pics.

i'm sure we could tell you, but the pictures aren't showing up! regardless, they shouldn't be kept in a 1 gallon bowl - they are really active, so if you don't have a tank where it can live peacefully there is always the option of returning it.

I don't see any webbing on those hands, but the photos are not clear at all. You're going to have to tell for yourself whether there is webbing there or not. It'll be obvious in person if there is.

To me that definitly looks like an ADF. ACF's are usually more stocky looking and ADF's are a bit more skinny looking. :)

to me there is no way that it is an ADF - it looks to be a clawed frog for sure...i don't see ANY webbing at all and i thought that was the main distinguishing factor...webbing vs. no webbing :dunno:

EDIT: although it does look slender, the claws look exactly like this pic

Hmm true..there is no webbing

I've owned both ADFs and ACFs and if it wasn't for the webbing issue I would say for sure that that is an ADF. I guess it's an ACF though because there is no webbing but body wise it sure looks like an ADF to me

Hi wwestar2000 :)

There's no doubt about it, you have a baby African Clawed Frog. It looks like he's a little on the skinny side too, so I hope you get some live blackworms for him while you are thinking about what to do with him. Your bettas will enjoy them too.

ACFs are not hard to keep, but he will eventually need to be moved into a larger tank. This is not as expensive or troublesome as it sounds because he won't need a filter or heater if you have him in a spot that stays somewhat close to the same temperature. They do need a good cover because they are jumpers.

They are fine pets and if you can manage to get him into larger quarters sometime in the next few months, I think you will be very happy with him. He'll be OK in the gallon tank for a while yet, so you have a little time.

i don't know how that could be a acf, i just went to petsmart today, and that frog looks exactly like an adf.

then they were mislabeled....webbing = adf, no doubts about it...

Update: The little frog got a good home with one of my bettas in one of my family member's house. So yeah Happy ending everyone! whooo!

happy ending for *now*, but i thought acf's will snag any small fish or ones with flowing fins :dunno:
