I have a fish that doesn't tolerate salt or high temperatures very well so thats out of the question. The only products i could find are color-changing. I feel like they'll stain my ornaments... and i dont want to go thru the trouble of removing the carbon from my filters. any ideas?

Wow lol. Hmmm well you could try turning off the filter, low oxygen levels will kill off the parasite. What kind of fish do you have?

wow lol. hmmm well I have tetras, cories, a paradise fish, a firemouth cichlid, and a weather loach... the weather loach is the fish i'm concerned about when it comes to adding salt and raising the temp.

Personally, I wouldn't turn off my filter... I seem to think low oxygen levels will also kill your beneficial bacteria. And if the fish are sick, I would want as much O2 in there as possible.

How long has your carbon been in there? If it's been a little while, it might be dead anyway.

As for the meds, I've used Coppersafe without it changing the water color, but I don't know if it's safe for all your fish; you would need to look into that. Good luck!

you have to treat the fish with something otherwise they will die from the whitespot. And if you use any medication you have to remove the carbon from the filter to prevent it absorbing the medication. If you don't remove the carbon the medication won't work and the fish will die.

most dyes will only stain the water but some will stain the silicon and ornaments. Methylene blue is the most ommon chemical that stains things blue. If you don't want your ornaments changing colour then take them out before treating the tank. When you have finished put them back in it.

I used something called Ektol Crystal by JBL for what some people here diagnosed as ich, although the jury is still out on that one as there was no rubbing etc and the spots did not look like salt! Anyway the med (powder form) mentions ich in the instructions (amongst other things) but also suggests combining with another JBL product if the ich is particularly bad or persists.

Anyway I guess my point is that there is no tainting of the water at all but it may have a negative effect on inverts & snails.

If you do treat with this I and others like Wilder would be very interested to know if it is successful!

Good luck!
