I know this is for Tropical Fish but i thought it would get more replies here and the poor little fish is very sick!

I posted a thread about this originally a couple of days ago which can be found here: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=91631 I think the fish has had some kind of injury, im thinking now that its most probably be caused by my two puppies Anyway, he only had a tiny bit of fungus when i first put him in the tank in the house, and it actually seemed to have cleared up completely last night and he was eating bloodworm and swimming around the tank. But when i checked on him this morning the fungus was back and it has just been getting worse and worse all day!! I didn't know it could spread that quickly :( Im treating him with some fungus med and he has also had melafix in the tank but nothing seems to be helping him. I've just had a look and his skin is actually 'peeling' off in a flap under all that fungus

Is there anything i can do for him now?! Im all out of ideas.... :(

salt melifx and keeping the water clean is about it ask or pm wilder she knows all about this stuff!

That columnaris at it's worst, you will need to do some salt baths asp, maracyn 2 and melafix as it's bad if you don't get it under control now you will lose the fish, and columnaris also shows itself in peeling of the skin.

Is he likely to survive though? Would it be kinder to 'put him out of his misery'? It just looks so painful :(

Goldfish can be fighters, but if he looks in pain yes i would do it is bad.

I'll give him til tomorrow, if there's no improvement i think i'll have to try and fine a humane way of putting him to sleep.. He's still swimming and eating which i guess is a good sign..

awww you can see his little ribs please give him afew days.my goldfish had its tail chopped off by accident and it took a week to start improving give it afew days i would.good luck hope he makes it

I no poor thing, goldfish are hardy fish and fighters, keeping fingers crossedx.

Thanks for all your help! I really hope he pulls through as he was one of my favourite of the pond fish as i picked him, and another one, myself!

I've just given him a salt bath. A big chunk of the fungus and skin came off... Is that good or bad? He's back in his tank sucking the gravel now! If he does pull through im going to somehow have to resist the temptation to make him a house fish!!! He's just so cute, i want him in the house where i can see him!

Yes it's better it's off him, in a couple of hours do another salt bath, do you have any melafix for his tank, if not add some salt as the wound could get infected now, do you have an internal bacteria med.

He's looking a bit better already :) He has melafix for his tank so hopefully, it shouldn't get infected. I dont think i have any internal bacteria meds.. Just ones for fungus, fin rot, white spot and melafix!

Ooh, here's a pic of how he's looking at the moment. As you can see, a large amount of the fungus seems to have just come off in the salt bath! :D

Or bless him, i cringe when i see his side, it makes make me shudder and he's such a cutie, what do you keep him in as he will need some salt baths and absolutely clean good water quality to help him mend.

Well, he was in a large pond in the garden but as the water isn't going to be great quality he will be kept inside in a tank at least until he is better. At the moment he only has a 5 gallon tank as it's all i have. Will he be ok in that until he's better?

As long as you do daily water changes even more, you will have to test the water quality daily, don't want him in the pond he needs good clean water quality do you have a little filter, could you add abit of mature filter sponge to it.
