to decide the gender of honey gourami? I have two and they seem to be very close to each other.. is this just natural, with them being timid fish? Or could they be mating?

Sorry if this is a really obvious question..

From what i know, the only way you can tell is during mating where he male gets a real HONEY colour blue throats, and black tipped fins. The female stays duller.

The female is also deeper-bodied and when viewed from above you can tell she is wider.

They aren't mating though. Honey gourami males build a bubblenest at the water's surface and then get the female below it where she releases her eggs, he fertilizes and collects them, places them in the nest and then guards them from all other fish - including the female. You'll be able to see if this happens very clearly :) They are probably just staying together because they enjoy each others' company. Gouramies are quite social when they aren't being territorial or spawning.
