I need a pump for a surface disruption configuration but I would rather keep the pump out of the aquarium and above the water line, needs to pump up to 750lph - is their such a thing or do all aquatic pumps need to be primed with the siphon effect i.e. below the water level outside the tank or submerged totally within it?

Can be available in the UK or USA (I am in Phoenix in November).

I use my glass Lily pipe to do this.

one third is above the water and 2 thirds below it which means that there is a lot of oxygen being drawn into the tank.

This of course means that you can do it with whatever lph your external filter is.

Sorry I should have been clearer why I am seeking such a pump, I'd rather have a dedicated system seperate from the filters as it will be used to drive a UV-C and I may not run it 24 / 7 (not decided).

My filter already has UV-C but based on my calculations and the filters flow rate it isn't very efficient - filter flow rate is 1500lph and it has 11Watts UV-C - but 300 lph is the max if it is to be particularly effective but I am not prepared to reduce my filtration.

I am working on a maximum of 75 Litres per hour per watt to allow for obscurity of the water and lamp deterioration over time, I am also reducing the lamp output by 50% to allow for losses (an 11 Watt UV lamp does not provide useful 11 Watt of UV-C, pnly 30% of the wattage is usefull UV-C).

I plan to use Tunze or similar to achieve in tank currents and leave filters to do what they do best ..... filter ....

Once primed, if both inlet and outlet of the pipe circuit is under water you don't have to re-prime it. Then you can use something nice and small like a maxijet 400 or 600. Your other option would be to go with an Eheim compact which have adjustable flow and set the pump just below the water line with the inlet pointing down and the outlet pointing sideways, use flex tubing or a right angle on the outlet and you'd be fine...
