I've recently replanted my tank ready for restocking, I've made quite a large waterchange but haven't "scrubbed" in order to maintain the bacteria etc...

However, there's a fair bit of algae around and I really don't want to be a "sucker" ('scuse the pun!) and buy a bottom-feeder/algae-eater that is going to grow far to large for my tank.

Could anyone recommend a small enough, bottom-feeder/algae-eater to fit into a 125 litre Jewel tank?

Many thanks,

You could try otos. But beware, they won't accept algae wafers, and they don't eat fish food. So you will NEED algae in the tank for them to live.

there are many algae eaters, my favourite is the Siamese algae eater (SAE), i have 5 in my 4ft community, which was covered in algae. within 48 hrs., there was no algae at all. i'm not sure if your tank is big enough for a group of them, as they van grow to about 4-5" and they prefer to be in groups of at least 5, but if you google "Siamese algae eater", then most sites will tell you the minimum tank size. my ottos do accept algae wafers, but they enjoy blanched veggies, especially peas, but they are quite timid, and if there is a bigger fish also going for the food, it will scare the little otocinclus away. if you only have tiny fish in your tank, then shrimp might be a good algae eater. i haven't had any experience with keeping them, so i am not an expert, and you'l have to look up how to feed them etc., but i think that the red cherry shrimp are easy to look after, and will breed readily, as long as there is a lot of
cover for the babies to hide, and no bigger fish to eat them.

hope this is helpful,
