Is tank water dangerous?

Haha oh I know of all the other bacteria on things...I try not to think about it though cause there isn't anything that can be done unless we all want to live in bubbles or something and I don't think that would be too enjoyable :p And yes thanks I'll sleep great tonight thinking about what my shoes track in lol
those bacteria are GOOD for you

we need to be exposed to abcteria and muck in order to develop good immune systems, there has been a vast rise in allergies, asthma and so on since people starting being obsessive about washing every single thing with antibacterial soap. people need to chill out.

Don't worry i've been coverd with tank water b4 and it's done no damage. I don't recomend drinking tank water but thats only cos it tastes like fishy waste. unless u've got some kinda problem wit ur immune system i'd not worry. i've had tank water on open cuts b4  (don't rearange sharp rocks in ur tank).

I'd be more concernd about ur fridge and kitchen as well as other ppl. deseases are mostly passed on from contact wit ppl and simply breathing.

The only thing i would worry about is the chemicals u use in ur tank. most are harnfull to ppl.

No matter how much cleaning u do with the exeption of making ur house radioactive (not recomended it's a long and painfull death) germs and deseases are always gonna be there.

Think of it this way Elisabeth.... if you were near a lake or pond would you put your hands in it or step in? If the answer is YES then why worry about a few gallons of tank water !!! :)

i am invincable . i live in billabongs streams the ocean and astuaries not to mention gruggy waters that allready are infested with parrisites sven on the fish being cought .i have even had my thumb shark chewed.toe stingray stabbed i have been stuck by hundreds of catfish even to the point of having to cut off the barb and push it through the hand to remove . had a gutfull of filthy water that had sat in a pond syphen for a week .stepped onto sanbars that are mud bars and sonk up to belly button .and thats just a portion of it .
IM STILL HERE...only had 1 bad water born paracite got me bad 2 times . i dont fish there anymore ..feel better .

Oh Dubby your so right!! Lakes and ponds are like huge aquariums I never thought about it that way and I swim in it, walk in it, get water in my mouth :p and look for cool critters and I don't think about washing my hands.

Squidlips - You've been through it all eh?? Well if your still alive after all of that then I am pretty darn safe lol

Working within the NHS, I have access to the national poisons database 'Toxbase' which lists every poisonous substance there is, and what to do is someone ingests it or comes into contact with it.

The only things listed under aquarium fish are:

-Fish food- contains cerials that are unsuitatable for people with wheat & gluten allergies
-Malachite Green- causes stomach cramps & possible diarrhoea
-tetradotoxin-puffer fish toxin-only dangerous if ingested
-various stone/scorpion/lion/toad fish venoms- their effects and what to do about them.

Aquarium water is not listed. ergo, not toxic.

Over the years ive had many mouthfulls of both freshwater and brackish water when starting syphons  (yes i still do it the old fashioned way :stupid:) and ive never experienced anything more but the disgusting taste of tank water, magnified by ten for brackish water (salty fish poo, nice :hey: ):alien:

same here i still start my siphon the "old fashioned way" but thats purely cos i'm too much of a tight fished person to spend the money and it's more fun.

If tank water could kill or make u ill then people with kids wouldn't have fish and some of us would be telling u so.

I think i speak for most of us wen i say contace can't hurt u and that we've all swalloed tank water at some point in our years of keeping fish

as already said if it was dangourus it would kill all fishkeepers.
I am always getting the gob full of fish water when i am sucking on the gravel cleaner piping. I do not swallow it though

Bah, Nonsence. People go swiming in the ocean and lakes. They swallow watter, get cut, and a that other jazz. If aquarium water was harmfull, then swimming in the ocean or lakes would be illegal becuase they are just as bad as out tanks.

I agree with that 100%, the first time I got a mouthfull of 80 degree saltwater from a tank it helped me understand why I live my freshwater tanks so much.

Personally I feel like my fish are cleaner than most things you'd find out in the 'dry world'.Pay phones, public restrooms, shopping cart handles, the steering wheel of your car  I could go on and on (I'm quite germ paranoid)

I think the biggest concern with keeping tanks and lots of fish is mold. Try and dry spills the best you can.
