Is My Tank Overstocked?

I think that there is only one type of DG mate (Trichogaster lalius) there are many different color variations though. But still none of the variations I have seen would be near compatible with bettas

mine is a red flame and is currently in with my male and a few females (which will be going back to the shop when everything gets moved to my 125litre on saturday)

i was just wondering because apart from mine i have yet to find another DG that is compatable

It doesn't mean that the OP is in the same situation mate. Just because you have a red one and it's fine with your males and females doesn't mean that it'll be okay with the OP's Betta, also of you think about it. Your male is fine with females which isn't expected so you can infer that it is very passing of other fish, meaning that it'll be okay with a broader range of fish compared to an average tempered betta

i was just wondering if it was because the red flame is very plain compared to other gouramis so thats why the male doesnt feel he's a threat, but seeing as its a different type of DG it cant be

I don't think that color has anything to do with it, and I already explained that you make will accept females which is very uncommon, if it will accept female Bettas then it is most likely to accept male DG's, once again color has nothing to do with it in this situation

i thought that colour was the main factor in the situation. Males dont like other males because theyre terretorial and they defend this with colour, which is one of the reasons that guppys and bettas dont go well together either

In this situation you have a very passing Betta, just the reason it can be kept with females is astonishing, If it can be kept with females then it can be kept with gouramis too mate. Flame red's are very bright and I have seen bettas show aggresion towards them. If the OP's Betta has been flaring at the DG, then it is not going to go well in the end mate.

PS, not every situation is the same, with yours it's different. Your females have quite a bit of color BTW, so it's not a big suprise at all that it's fine with the DG

ive always put it down to them all being very easy going, because the DG doesnt go after the females after, but if you think its the male then things should get even easier when he becomes the only betta in the tank

I'm not trying to be a buzzkill, but the original post was a question about being overstocked with the OP granting permission for some stocking critiques. Lets not hijack the thread to discuss scenarios not regarding the OPs tank.

May I suggest one more Cory that I have seen at petsmart before. Corydoras trilineatus Is a very pretty one

I'd like to second that recommendation! I currently have 5 Trilineatus Corries & I'm adding 2 more next week. They are quite a bit smaller than Emeralds at only about 2 inches max. They seem to do best in slightly cooler temperature tanks................

Pygmy cories would love a tank this size, like the hastatus corydoras for example.
I am wondering, why are bettas so aggressive with other fish? Has anyone tried to raise them from fry in a community tank rather than separating them when very young?
I was looking at bettas in the fish shop and there was one housed with the guppy males. I looked to find shredded guppy tails but there were just fine and swimming around the betta like he was nothing. The tank was rather small too, max 10G.

Edit: I prefer the habrosus corydoras though from the pygmy type species.

Every Betta is different Snazy. I have heard of people having successful communities with bettas and guppies mixed, but it's more common to have a betta that is aggressive towards guppies than it is to have one that is not. I personally didn't have good luck. This is why its not recommended, but there is no guarantee that it wont work.
