its obvious I have too many ish at the moment - see sig for what I have in there.

the tank is 60cm/30cm/35cm 63 litres and 13.8UK gallons. once the molly fry are gone will my tank still be overcrowded? what is the right number of fish for my tank? everyone seems to have different rules for cm of fish per litre or whatever, its just confusing!!!! how many would YOU have in there?

whats the best way to get rid of the mollies? should I take them to a lfs?

Well, the pleco alone makes it overcrowded. If you can take him back I would. Your gourami's might get too big as well. Other then that I think you are fine. The other fish you have don't get huge.

Tiff

I love my pleco! its about 4 in now and I know someone who would take him off my hands if he really got too big. the gouramis are about 4in and 3 in.

What's the sex of your moonlight gourami's? We had two males (by mistake) and ended up having to return one of them. They are VERY territorial and can be very mean to their own kind. They can also grow to 6".

4" and 3" gourami as well as the other fish. I have a 4" gourami and I can't imagine it in a tank that small.

IMO that's a tight squeeze. What are you parameters like?

one boy, one girl. the male was very nasty to the girl but they seem to have settled down now. they both look to have stopped growing.

I would at least get your friend to take the plec off you ... and the fry as fast as possible too.

Remember its not about letting them survive.. but letting them thrive.
Its great that you have raised them well thus far

Also there is a critical load that a filter can handle (I made that up do you know what I mean?) Eventually one more inch on that pleco poo will be the poo that breaks the filter's back...
Also temperment of growing fish..
Its kind of like kids one day they are playing with dolls and trucks the next they are jumping out of their pants and chasing other boys and girls... It can happen quite suddenly.

I had a tank of cichlids for 1 year.. no BIG problems, but eventually the chaces changed to slaughters... same fish same tank... they just grew up one day and boy thank goodness I had some extra tanks and buckets.

I think Mr plecky kind of tips the balance.

The inch rule only works for small fish upto about 3" or so. A 4" fish does not require twice as much vpolume as a 2", but a few times more.

If you got rid of Mr P and changed the moonlights for smaller fish like Dwarf Gouramis, it would be a lot better for the long run.
