Clown loaches reach 16 inches. They also prefer/need extra filtration and water movement. They should also be kept in groups of at lest 5. The tank size should be around 75 gallon if that's all you plan on keeping in there. Make sure to find the longest 75 gallon you can.

I've 6 clown loaches in a 5 foot tank, 18 inches deep, 2 foot high, 425 litres. I've not ruled out a 6 foot tank in a few years time though, depends how i feel about them size wise later on.

For most people anything bigger than 4 foot is too big but thats the minimum size i would suggest (which you have, yey). If they grow to 6 inches or more (and they will) then you need to step up to a 5/6 foot tank.

Its very hard to spot deformaties but with a bit of logic and common sense you can avoid it. Just remember, late at night, when you are in bed, these fish like to go bananas in their tanks so swimming space is key. In the same way we like to stretch our legs, they like to stretch their...er...fins.

Generally speaking, Clown loaches are a daft purchase for people who cant provide them with a decent big tank in the first place and are best returned to the fish shop.

I also had a Rio 240 before my 5 footer and avoided clowns.

50 YEARS?? lol i was told they live for 10 to 15 years but i dont know much about them, i was also wondering if clown plecos like to be on there own or with others? thanks for the help.

Clown plec's, like all plecs, are mobile s.hit machines, so consider this in your bioload. Other than being hard to get hold of good stock (so i have found) there grow to a max of about 5 inches, so dont need the same room most plecs do, but still require a fair swimming space, and a few hiding places.

Apparently they are pretty much fully nocturnal and very shy, so if your happy to keep a fish you'll likely only see during maintenence, go for it

No rtbs need a minimum tank size of 55gallons as they are agressive and territorial.
