Ive had my 20 gallon tank running for about a week and a half and have.....
2 pitcus catfish
2 zebra
2 neon tetras
1 clown loach
The pitcus catfish or about 2.5 inches and the clown loach about a inch maybe a little more.
I know that the pitcus will eventually eat the zebras and neons, but do i have to much fish in my tank? Or just enough?

Do you mean your tank is cycling coz if it is then its a big mistake
my 20 gallon(i think) is the tank in my sig and its been setup for 2 months
so thats about the amount of fish u could have in the end ,but i'am praying
that your tank is cycled

whats cycling? i put the bracteria and all the chemical in lets the filters run for 3 days added the fish i had in my 5 gallon and bought the 2 pitcus and the clown loach 4 days later

The clown is probably not a good idea, they like to be in groups and your tank is just not a suitable size for a small school of them. You said its still small, so are you moving it to a bigger tank with some friends?clown loaches
Also, are you planning on having your neons and zebras eaten, or was that just a funny thing you put? :dunno: you need some more neons, but you need to take other fish out first.

edit: i'm officially fish crazy at 100 posts :)

i really dont care that there eaten but are the catfish ok in this tank? and the clown loach?

so the pitcus will be fine and the clown needs a bigger home eventually. :S
And you shouldn't have just 1 clown, they do best in 3's or 4's, but not in your size tank.

How small is he at the moment. Of course he will be alright, stay alive I mean, in your tank. But it won't be comfortable/happy. As fishkeepers we strive to create a natural setting as possible for our fish, to give them the advantage in all things possible(suitable temp. for diff. fish, varied diets for varied fish, proper plants and getting schools of fish if they're schooling fish)

What's going on is that you aren't doing all you can to let your fish lead a happy comfortable life (not providing all advantages, if you get what I mean) That's why many people say that they have success in keeping such and such a fish in such and such an environment, and nothing's wrong. The fish are OK. Like people keeping oscars in a 20 gallon for example. Sure you can do this, but in reality, it isn't meant to be this way, it's too small a footstep for an oscar, and adverse effects will occur in the future...

Clown loaches grow to 12 inches and like to be in groups of *at least* three. This is a fish you will need to re-home.

The pictus cats also needs re-homing.

Tetras and 'zebra' (danios?) need to be kept in goups of 5 or more.

You will find a post about cycling if you look at the pinned topics in the beginners forum - it is something like 'avoiding new tank syndrome' or something similar.

Here's the link - http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=10099

Once you have tested your water (read topic I mentioned) and ascertained that your tank is cycled, you will need to add 3 more tetras and zebras (slowly) and then find your unsuitable fish a new home or get a new tank soon.

i was gonna buty a bunch of real plants for the loach and my water cycled i put bacteria in the frist day i got the tank lets i stand for 2 days, i learned my lesson form my last tank where i didnt put the bacteria in. what im asking in thsi topic is it to much whats in the tank...i would put more zebra and such but i dont want to put to much in..

A good rule of thumb is 1" of fish per gallon. This is at their full size usually. The clowns are very social, and you would get the full benefit of their great personalities by having them in groups of at least 3. You clown will also snack on any live plants you put in the tank. Mine at one leaf from each plant, and left the rest alone.....and I'm lucky for that!

If you put bacteria in from a bottle i.e. 'cycle' then that does not mean the tank is cycled. You need to get a test kit and see if ammonia and nitrite are 0ppm and you only have a small <5ppm of nitrates.

Once you have done this, then yes you have too much in your tank, see if your lfs will take your clown and pictus, they may give you credit for them, but even if they dont take em back. Once thats done add some more neons 3, and Zebras (if you mean danios) 3. But then again 20g is the MINIMUM for danios so not to many.

With that stocking level you could prolly have a couple of ottos or maybe some corys no less than 4 though if you go with the corys.
