Is My Swordtail Pregnant?

Hi,

I have a couple of females with these similar symptoms.. chubby... dark area round the anal fin... is it the gravid spot???... and are they pregnant???

I managed to take a pic of one of them!! (not great picx at all) see what you all think??!!


Judging by other preg sword picx i've seen before i'd say she was a a couple of weeks gone... but 'i know nothing'!! lol

she could be pregnant, can you see any black dots inside her?

although all female livebearers have a gravid spot *area where they carry young* but with lighter coloured fish like yours you can often see the fry inside them

Its hard to make out if theres anything in there!! lol... there could be.. or it could be just her insides lol... im not sure!!

I'll see how she developes over the next few days!! but i dont want her to drop and me not even notice.

However one of my girls had dropped a few fry last week, trouble is none of them even looked pregnant!! lost a load before I even noticed they were there

if you have lots of hiding places like plants, caves, rock structures small places for the fry to get but not the adults then you should get some survive, is the tank planted? fry love hiding in floating plants

I have plenty of plants!! but I have a few other fish in the tank (silver dollars, silver sharks and a couple of gouramis) so even if they were to hide im sure the others would find them out

Ohhhh .. and there are slight colour differences/blobs in her gravid spot : (fingers crossed they'l develope more in the next few days)

I have a breeding/rearing tank that I have set up using mature filter media and water from my main tank. My 2 surviving 4 day old fry are living in there quite happily!!!

once i've got the '' judging when there due to drop'' thingy sorted i'll transfer the mother to the fry tank to drop her fry!

Its just getting that part figured out that im having trouble with !!

will keep an eye out on the swords... Theres another that appears to have a darker/ patchy Gravid than the others too.

if she gets much bigger i'll shift her pver to the rearing tank... I'll keep you posted

how far gone do you estimate?? or how long left?? roughly??

Just so i know when to transfer her to the rearing tank

probably 1/2 weeks, its when you can see the eyes that they have about a week left she could have anything upto 50 is average although i had a molly have 101

holy jeepers!!! lol well i can definately see discoulouration in the spot... like little shiny spots and lil darks spots. think i'll move her in a day or two into the rearing tank

I Can definately see spots (shiney eyes) in 2 of my Fem Swords now ooooo Im gettin excited!!

How long do you think i should leave them untill I Transfer them too my rearing tank??

hmmmm one of the 'mom's to be' seems to be bumping along the bottom of the tank.. doesnt seem to be very healthy.. could this be that she's about to give birth.. or does it sound critical??

has she became thin? hows her breathing? could you get a picture that would really help hope she's ok
