When we got the fish about 3 months ago he/she was 1/3 this size. Is this normal? Is he/she okay? I have never seen a Red Platy's belly this size!

Looks to be a female about ready to give birth. As long as her scales aren't sticking out like a pine cone, which it doesn't look like. She should start dropping fry in the next few days.

Looks like a balloon molly lol! Expect a large fry drop from this one. She looks pretty healthy to me

She is huge. That's for sure.
I had a platy that large. Well lets just say that I hope you have better luck with her than what I had with my girl. Yours looks very healthy I must say.
I have only found one fry so far, I am sure more will come out of the plants soon.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

A quick 20% water change and you'll have fry in 24hrs time. Yay

Woaaaaaaaaaaaahh.

prepare for babies... Lots, and lots of babies. :look:

Lol I changed the water out and am now waiting... How long is the gestation period for Red Platy? I don't have a male Platy and got her 3 months ago, thus being the reason I didn't think this could be a pregnancy.

A male platy will have mated with her in the fish shop...They can store sperm for about 6 months :good:

They care usually pregnant for 28-32 days, she is definitely pregnant!

Also make sure they have somewhere to hide, mum will eat them given the chance, you can add marbles etc and moss for them to hide in for the best chance. I used to catch mine every few hours and keep them seperate in a breeding box

A platy that has a belly that big is pregnant. Once it is pregnant it will NEVER stop being pregnant until she dies. Every 3-6 months it will have a certain number of babies. The lump WILL get smaller but will always be there. This may overload your tank so you will have to give some away. You can always give the fish away and get a new one if this is going to be a problem for you. I have had this problem and we ended up buying a new fish because we couldnt handle it.

Hope this helps
BE PREPARED!
