I found 3 baby fish swimming around my tank yesterday. Can this platy still be pregnant?

Welcome to the forum Newbiejmjn323.
If you found fry in your tank, the female has dropped. Your next expected drop is at least 4 weeks away.

Yes they are platy fry.. I got excited when I found them.. I always wanted to breed the fish but I never looked into it much. Now after this I'm researching it and I still need help but I'm trying.

Now the fish is chasing the other fish away from the food is that normal?

hello all, i just wanted to ask about my molly, she lives in a group of 5 with one male molly and 4 females. how do you know when shes preganant and whats a gravid spot??? i read about it on the internet but i just cant make sense of it. oone minute my molly looks to be reallly fat and then the next she looks small again and i cant find any fry?? is it me being really silly and blind and im just not seeing the fry or is something else causing my molly to go fat and then thin?
PLEASE HELP....

The mollies will be baby machines from now to eternity. It's good that you have 4 females to 1 male, though, because he's very persistent - his persistence will be shared between 4 females, so they'll all get a rest from it, whilst he's off being persistent at another one.

When you say one minute fat, the next not, we should be talking about a cycle of around a month - 6 weeks. A female can go from being fat one day to being slim the next, when she's dropped a batch of fry, but not the other way around.

The chances are that you aren't seeing fry because they're being eaten. If you'd like fry to survive, then provide lots of plant cover in the tank, but please also consider what you are going to do with the fry - cos they won't stay small for long, and with 4 females each having 30+ fry every 4-6 weeks, you will soon be VERY overstocked.

You might try a perusal of my thread on my own molly's progress from one drop to the next. I call it My Molly's Progress in my signature area. The idea of the thread was to let you be the best judge of your own molly based on pictures I took every few days.

Welcome to the forum. If you would like to breed livebearers here is what you need.

Established tank
Filter
Heater
Food
Male
Multiple females

All of your ladies will be knocked up pretty quick lol

I have 1 male swordtail to 5 ladies and my ladies seem to drop one right after the other. Good luck to you and I hope you have a large tank :p With plenty of plants and hidey holes. Platys like to eat their babies. If the babies can survive the first day, they stand a good chance of making it to adult hood. LOTS of hiding spots is key. Or a separate fry tank.
