I just got a new betta today. He was very lively and healthy-looking at the store. Now that he's in his new home here, he just sits at the bottom on his rear end, like he's standing on his tail fin. I've never had a betta that did this, so I'm kinda puzzled. I know a lot of times bettas will exhibit their own little personalities (my last betta was quite a character), so could this just be part of his personality? Or could there be something wrong to explain why he's not sitting/swimming, well, level? Other than this he looks fine and is eating alright.

(His tank is a 1 gallon.)

He's resting on his tail? Pretty much looking like he's going to point straight up?
That's not really a good sign. Whenever mine have done something like that, it was b/c they were sick or stressed out.
Are you keeping his 1 gallon heated someway? Do you know the temp of the water? Did you make sure to treat the water w/ dechlorinator?

Start him off on internal anti bacteria meds. Mine was same and thought i was going to lose him but he pulled through. Good luck with him

Might be unhappy about the size of his tank? Recomended minimum is 2 gal for a Betta, Or maybe the quality of water could be something to do with his behavoir.

Was the tank setup and run for the recomended period?

I do not have his tank heated in any way because someone said that a heater would probably be unnecessary for such a small tank and that it may get too hot around the heater. But, should I get a heater then?

I'm going to clean his tank today and see if that has any affect on him. It's just puzzling because resting on his tail is the only symptom, other than that he seems perfectly healthy and content.

The last betta I had in this tank didn't seem to care about the size of it at all. I'm not sure why this new betta would be unhappy about it since he was kept in a tiny glass cup at the store. But I dunno, maybe he would like a bigger one, I would love to give him more space.

I don't know about a recommended tank run period. I had it setup about a day and a half before putting him in. Is that bad or good?

Alright, I cleaned his tank water and though he seems to be doing a little better, he still doesn't quite stay upright. He'll either rest on his side a little or a bit on his tail. :/

He usually hangs around the bottom but he has no problem swimming up to the top for air or if something catches his attention enough.
