I just got my Ebo-Jager heater in the mail today off of ebay. The instructions that came with it leave questions to the newbie such as myself. I have the Model TS 50watt heater. It says waterproof. My questions are:

1) Should it be completely submusred (including the temperature dial), like I have it HERE

2) Is diagagonal, horizontal, or vertical the best placement?

3) Is it ok for plastic plants to be touching it, or will they melt/burn etc?

Dont worry...it isnt plugged in yet ;)

1. Either way works. I keep the dial at the top of the water so that it is within easy reach, and I don't really have the need to submerge it, however many people like to hide it out of sight, in which case submerging gives you more options.

2. It doens't matter

3. The heat disperses into the water pretty quickly but it's best to avoid having decorations touching it.

If placement doesnt much matter, and decorations shoudl be kept away, would vertical in the corner be the best spot for it? Although, I like it submurged enough that I will not have to worry about it durring water changes

I've got to look at more pictures on here of everyones tank, but I want it to be as hidden as possbile. In a small tank like mine, I dont want the heater being the focal point. I know I need more plants and decor, but I am waiting a little to make sure fishkeeping goes well before I sink to much more money into stuff.

If you want it as hidden as possible, then horizontal near the bottom is probably the best placement -- provided the 'decorations' allow that.

However, I'd recommend running it in a position where you can easily adjust it, until your temperature stabilizes. After it's stable at the temperature you want for a few days, chances are you won't adjust it very often.

Well, I realized that only the bottom of the heater gets warm, so I moved it into the corner more so it can use the filters flow best. I was able to put my plants closer to the rest of it now too. I think once I get a darker background and more plants it will look much better, but until then it will stay this way
