Is my Gourami male or female? Is it bloated or Pregnant?

Hello, I have two Gouramis. One of them seems too have bloated/pregnant. Can’t differentiate between male and female nor if it’s pregnant or bloated. It is staying at on position, not moving and staying at the top part of the tank. Can someone help please? Should I quarantine it?

Both look female. Unsure about the one that is on the left though.

Both are indeed female dwarf gouramis

But the one on the right has dropsy, a symptom of internal issues.

Usually with dwarf gourami however, this is usually related to Dwarf Gourami Disease and there is no cure.

You can try to do Epsom salt baths, but chances are slim that you will see much help

not necessarily. female dwarf gouramis can look really fat due to eggs.

if the fish is fat, has stopped eating and is doing a stringy white poop, then it has dropsy. But if it's still eating well and does coloured poop, it's fine and full of eggs.

I was thinking the fact that the scales are also starting to pinecone, that is why I'm thinking dropsy rather than just gravid.

Even when gravid, my female does not get the pineconed scales

If the scales are sticking out from the body, then that is bad (dropsy) and not eggs.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I figured it might have dropsy as the scales had started to pinecone. I quarantined it in a smaller tank with Epsom salt, but unfortunately it died a few hours back.
