I just bought a paradise gourami on Saturday. It was fine through Sunday night. In the same 55 gal tank as the gourami I had 5 tiger barbs (they've since been moved to another tank). It looks as though these barbs have nipped his fins quite badly. Oddly though, those were the same barbs that were with him in the large tank at the store. Since Sunday, we've been treating the tankwith melafix. He will occasionaly come up for air but mostly lays in the bottom of the tank, twice I've found him on his side. His breathing is quicker but it's still not panting. Is there anything I can do? By the way, the ammonia is way down, everything is within spec. Thanks.

It sounds like you have a barb problem. What I would do is get another 2 or 3 tiger barbs and they should stop nipping the
gourami, It worked with my barbs. If the barb nip each other thats alright, its very common with barbs.

Good Luck!

yeah i agree, buy more 1-2 more barbs..and some females for ur gourami
