just got home from work to discover my beta on the bottom of the tank
he is really gasping and when he moves the only motion he got it is to flip and fold himself in half

he is about 2 years old and has had a lump on his side for about 4 months now

all other fish are fine and my water is fine as i just done a change 3 days ago

is there any thing i can do if not whats the most humane way of putting him to sleep

thanks in advance

Well seeing as 18 people read this and nobody answered, I can only assume that nobody wants to advise you the wrong thing. Reading your post, when you say 'your other fish are fine' what set up do you have? Is your betta in with other fish? He may have a tumour. 2yrs old is fairly old for a betta, but there's been older. If you want to put him to sleep there is a way, but I can't remember it - I can ask one of the other betta owners for you, she will post after me. Sad news anyway xx

Hun, i'm so sorry to hear your bad news, its heartbreaking to see.

If you want to "put your boy to sleep" you need clove oil. You have to remove your little boy and put him in a small tank by himself, mix up a few drops of oil in half a ltr of water and shake it till it goes white then add half of it to his tank and cover him over. After about 30mins to an hour add the rest and let him alone. He will fall asleep in the water and eventually drown in his sleep. Some people add Vodka with the second half of the oil as this will ensure he never wakes up.

I do feel tho that he may be gone before you have the chance to get what you need. You will have to get the clove oil from a chemist.

Sorry again hun, i feel for you

he passed last night
i put him in a nursery net her perked up for a couple of hours then stopped moving

cant believe i was so upset when other fish have died its not bothered me as much

Awww hun i so understand, i love watchin my tropicals but if one dies i replace it however bettas are so different.

May he rest in peace :rip:
