Is My 10 Gallon Tank Overstocked?

Well, I already have plenty of decorations. I really do want some small red fish to add some color. It is really pretty already, but it needs some red.

MY suggestion is that you add some red decorations.

If you really want to do as you please and add some more fish, go ahead but you are shooting yourself in the foot.

You could just about get away with adding a red platy, but you would be fully stocked then, and you'll almost certainly have some fry along soon...

Red Platys are pretty! And my fish are pretty creepy. I just looked at them, and they just started starring at me.

lol; live bearers are cheeky, not creepy :)

Maybe a backing on your tank and some more plants would make your tank look fuller and make the fish stand out more.

I may get one red platy, but if not I will get a backing. Its almost feeding time, and they are going crazy! I can see them swimming near the top, darting all around. When I get near, they start swimming even faster! The platys look at me and shake their heads. Whenever I pick up the food, they swim over to it. I love fish now! To think all of this happened because I won a single goldfish at the carnival amazes me...

Cute.
Fish are indeed very interesting..

I got a chance to see my friend's two tanks. Her youngest son has a 10 gallon with three glofish, and it is so pretty! One of them is chasing the other around. The other tank is a 30 gallon with 12 fish: 2 guppies, 3 neon tetras, I think she said a cory, a pleco, and I forget the rest because they had bizarre long names.

I'm afraid that the 10 gallon is not enough for three goldfish, even for a single one..
Be prepared to make a lot of water changes.

Glofish not goldfish ;)

And it's not the OPs tank...

OP; be careful who you take advice from. Not saying anything bad about your friend, but there are an awful lot of people who keep fish, and keep them alive, without really knowing what they're doing.

For instance, your friend has;

a single corydoras and all cories should be kept in species groups, of at least six individuals
a 'plec' when many of the most commonly sold types are not suitable for a tank of that size
three neons; another fish that should be kept in a species group of at least six
not to mention the fact (okay, I just did mention it!) that neons prefer soft water while guppies need harder water to do well

so her stocking is quite poor.

Oh damn my dislexia.

And I do agree with you.. All of this is a weird stocking. I'm wondering why people are insisting on keeping fish in such conditions when they wouldn't do the same to dogs, cats, birds, etc.
:/

When I started fish keeping goldfish98 I had the same views as you my thinking was if it does not look busy enough add more fish and if there were any fish I liked I would just add them to the tank. Using this forum has changed my views on fish keeping and it has made my fishes lives much better. They all know a lot about fish and the changes that have happened in my tank because of them are amazing and I can't thank them enough for all the help they have given me and my fish from Tom

I think they did have more neons at one point. Those are actually kid's tanks.
