Is Mr. Clean harmful to betta fishes? I have a friend who cleans his tanks with Mr. Clean products.

yep, unless of course Mr. Clean is what your friend calls her husband. Then it's just funny :)

damn, screwed it up. Your friend is a guy. The joke doesn't work now.

I really wouldn't. If any of the chemicals remain in the bowl, that fish will be really sick. Plus, the scent can't be too pleasing to the poor beta. all I use is a tiny dab of Dawn, for a gallon tank. Then flush it out about four times with boiling water.

Well he said he used it to clean the tanks that he puts his betta in.. I told him it was bad.

Will the betta suffer from a disease or die instantly? He saids its fine.

I don't use any household cleaners on my tanks inside or out. I don't know if Mr. Clean can be used or not I just don't feel it would be very safe most household cleaners bother me including Mr. Clean.

It depends on the chemicals in the cleaning products. If they are detergent based the soapy residue can destroy the surface tension of the water and prevent the water from being able to hold any dissolved gases like oxygen & carbon dioxide. Probably not an issue to male fighters because they actually breathe atmospheric air.
Other cleaning products can be caustic and have a very alkaline PH. If any of that is left behind the PH of the water can skyrocket and the fish's skin can literally peel off.
Other products just have nasty poisons in them, which kill the fish through chemical poisoning.

I have made the mistake of using house hold clearners on my tank, the outside i may add, some got in the water and i lost 2 of my best breeding males and nearly a third. I would tell your friend to stear clear at all costs, it only takes a bit missed and thats it very sick/dead fish

Oh, bribe, blackmail or threaten him, because I once used a used bottle of Mistolin (Mop soap, thingy) to make a volcano for his tank and he got pretty bad fin rot. I strongly advise against it.

I have used dish soap to scrub out tanks before, but when I say rinse I RINSED them out after words, actualy I put them in the bathtub under the faucet turned it on and let the water run into the over flowing tank for about 15 min.

no I am not on a water meter, its well water and we are no were near a drought as in so much rain its been flooding.

Hi, erm what is Mr Clean?

Would it be something that is kept in that room where dinner comes from? -_-

I would suggest to him vinegar. It is cheap and works very well. You do have to still rinse very well....but WAY safer than Mr. Clean !
