Is Live Sand Really Needed?

i've seen the bottom of tanks painted white and the light reflects off of it. Can hardly even tell it's glass, looks pretty good i must say.

I just used dry argonite sand, becomes live very quickly, i would love to see a few picture's of a bare bottom tank, can't remember seeing any before, but from what i have read it seems like another good option.
