I HAVE MANY BEAUTIFUL PIECES, IN MANY TYPES OF JASPER, ROUGH & SLABS . WHICH TYPES ARE OK TO PUT IN MY FRESH WATER AQUARIUM WITH OUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY CHEMICAL LEVELS?
Yup Jasper is a micro crystalline quartz and apart from being very expensive is also a member of the limestone family - thus changing the pH and hardness.Hello and welcome to the forum!

To my knowledge, “Jasper” is a really expensive stone. But, I also hear that Jasper can be some sort of limestone, so I do not recommend adding it to your tank. Limestone is high in calcium, which makes the water more hard.
You are right it can be a expensive stone but sure would make a tank pop! There is so many types. Its made of different minerals than limestone, jasper is chalcedonic quartz or micro granular quartz.Limestone is made up of mostly calcinm carbonate like you said. Where quartz are fairly hard. Jasper is 6.5 to 7 on the Logs scale of hardness. And limestone is 3 to 4 on the scale. Thanks for your input.Guess I'll try little at a time and keep checking water values and make sure the stones dont disintegrate!Hello and welcome to the forum!

Smart idea thanks ,will try it. Thank you gregWhen in doubt, set up a tub of water and put the stones in that and test regularly. It is also helpful to set up a second tub of water with nothing else in it and compare the test results of both - any differences are due to the stones.

Please make sure your cap lock is off next time. DID'T KNOW IT WOULD UPSET SOMEONE BY USING CAPS. BUT I HAVE A VISION PROBLEM. I GUESS I'M NOT BEING PC. WHY DOES ALMOST EVERYONE TRY TO CORRECT PEOPLE TO DO IT THE WAY THEY DO IT OR THIER WRONG IN SOME WAY.
Using capitals on a forum is the written equivalent of shouting, which is why some people don't like it.
