A few days ago I noticed 1 baby fry in my main tank. I save it. :) I didn't know what female it came from, the 4 of them were pregnate. Now yesterday I noticed one of the mommas not swimming around, kinda hiding out and I seen her take what looked like a seasure ! She was flipping around, it only lasted a couple seconds. I woke up this morning to find her dead :(

So heres my take ! She managed to get out one baby but couldn't get the others out.... and she became sick and exhausted.... then died.

Do this make any sense ?! What happend to her !

That makes sense. It's pretty stressful for the fish when it comes time to drop the fry. If she was being pestered by one or more males or any other fish, then it's even worse for them. Next time you might want to try a breeding tank or trying separate tanks for the pregnant fish.

I'm sorry to hear that your fish died.

Yes, I agree with tempestuousfury, giving birth is very stressful for the lil fishies. Maybe something did go wrong with the birth or maybe she just wasn't strong enough to cope with it.

I hope your little fry is OK.

Yes hes still doing great ! :) I still cannot tell if he or she is a guppy or platy yet ..

I will put the pregnate females in a birthing tank. I do have one, the babie is in it though and I didn't want him to get eaten. I am pretty sure they still have a little while to go although I am not sure. I can never tell when they are about to pop ! I'll keep you posted, thanks for the replys !

sorry about the fish.

um, how come you cant tell if its a guppy or plattie?
but if your not 100 percent sure what it is, its probly a guppy if there is ni hint of color yet. platties are usually born with color.

It must be a guppy then, there is no color at all. Do platy babies look like the parents when they are first born? the shape I mean
