is it true that fire-belly toads are poisonous? beacuse i've been told that they have red little spots and that means there poisonous. i think there really cute and i want to get one but i need more info on them first. how big do they grow? what size of tank will i need? what food do they eat? and what can i mix with them?

:D

They get 2 inches, and they can secrete toxins, which could make you sick. Just wash your hand after handling them (Don't rub your eyes, eat with your hands) and you'll be fine. I have two, they are great pets :D Their bright colors are used to ward off predators, and if that doesn't work, the predator will become sick after eating the toad, meaning that if this predator lives, it won't ever eat a FBT again. :D

Are you refering to B. Orientalis? If so, then ya can only keep then with other FB toads. Max size of 6 cm, and 2-3 can be kept in a 10 gallon. Eats houseflies, bluebottles, moth larvae, earthworm, mealworm, crickets, small/weak fish and bloodworms. Keep temp. at 20-24ºC and make sure the dry surface in the tank is at least 1/4, and can be used as feeding area.

edit - or so I've read... dwarfs keeps them so first hand experience is always better, although it may vary from person to person. (frog to frog) ;)

thanks you guys that really helps. I'm now goin to go away and think about gettin another tank to put them in. :kana: :D :p

can i keep one fire-belly toad in a 5 gallon tank? and also do they make noises? beacuse if they do i will keep me awake at night lol :D

Yea, I would think so! I keep my Chinese Fire Bellied Newt in a 5.5 gallon and it seems to be doing well! Although I'm not sure if they must be with others. Like cories or loaches or something!

as for noises - I really don't know, I've never owned any...

Mine won't shut up! They make a low chirp that sounds like it is from a bird far away :p
