For a 200l tank is 7 species of fish too much?

I think that would totally depend on the species, their size, and whether they will get along. It does seem like alot though. What kind of fish?

Completely depends on what fish you want. I will have 7 species in my 46g soon...but they are compatible and live in different parts of the tank....and my filter can handle the load.

X-Ray Pristella Tetras
Black neon tetras

Bristle nosed pleco
Harlequin rasboras

All but the Bristlenose Pleco are schooling fish that should be kept in groups of at least six. That's the part that makes it a lot. The tank can probably hold that amount no problem but those all hang out in the same parts of the tank with the exception of the kuhlis & pleco.

Maybe you should consider trading one of those species for Hatchetfish, which hang out inb the top half of the tank.

And I find that at least a dozen is much better :)

I'd go for larger shoals of two species; looks afar more impressive :good:

Excellent point Mrs. Moth :good: My son's (14) Neons look spectacular when they school together.

My 12 cardinals looked fantastic as well! So I'd agree on the suggestion of one large shoal rather than tons of smaller ones.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish I had gotten either 12 Von Rio Tetras or 12 Lemon Tetras instead of two smaller schools for my 36 gallon.

I'm sorry I don't understand that first part.

I am inclined to agree with Fluttermoth. While 7 species of fish may look good for diversity, large shoals with few species will look stunning as more of the fishes natural behavior will show.

If I could do it all over.

You never heardx that old saying? Hindsight is 20/20 means it's always easier to see what you'd do different after the fact.

would 12 be a good number of Von Rio's? I just got 8 of them and have them in QT...could easily add 4 more since they will be my only school (other then cories)

how are your barbs doing with the tetras? I always love the different barbs, but worry about nipping.

Cherry Barbs? I love them. I just bought a single female called a "Veil Tail Cherry Barb" to add to my group. I have 3 complete pairs but one female is a veiltail. They actually get along very good with the other Tetras & Gouramis. When I first got them the females hid a lot and the males were a bit wimpy but now they let the Tetras know what's up! The mostly chase each other & I haven't seen any of them hurt each other. More like playful type chasing.
