Pat the moment I just have some pretty ordinary guppies, however the male has a sort of leopard print tale, would it be possible for somewhere along the line to make show guppies?

A specific fish that does not display show quality characteristics (so for example, if the body is too large or small), then it will never be what I would consider "show quality" even though it may win a show if other entrants are not that great. On the other hand, if the offspring are line bred to comply with the guidelines on show quality fish, then yes, they can eventually comply with all the points that are considered.

Thanks :) most fish shops have said they will only buy guppies off me if they are very nice, going to have to start working

Most F1 offspring from shop bought, colour matched pairs will be good enough for most shops once they're big enough (usually around 3 months). In other words, avoid mixing a red female with a blue male, as that produces mosaic-type patterns, which (in my experience) are not as popular as the classing half-black blue, red, snakeskin, etc.
