Is it OK to 'anchor' power cords with silicone?

I'd stick the cords/tubes to the tank, I agree that if you stick them to the lid they'll have to keep on moving every time you move the lid and maybe get stressed. Also you might need to allow some slack into the cords to allow the lid to move enough.

Silicone or maybe even the gorilla super gel glue? Both of those would work good

I would never use any glue on plants, it affects the way they grow; plants need to be able to grow their roots naturally
Typically only a drop of glue (typicallysuper glue ) is used to attach a rhizome to a rock or other item The plant will produce roots all along the rhizome. The plants will not notice the glue and it will have no effect on new growth (roots and stem). For plants without rhizome weights are typically used to hold the plant inlace while the roots grow. This does not restrict the growth.

I thought about tape but am worried about possible toxins due to the adhesives contained in tapes.

I have also thought about modeling clay as, I believe, it is pretty inert. Shoot, I could even drill a couple of small holes and use plastic wire ties.
I know the feeling, Oase didn't think that through great either, they are cool looking, but you do have to wonder if some of these aquarium designers have ever actually kept fish!!
I had to widen/ drill out the wire hole in the lid for 60L biorb I acquired to run enough wires/ tubes for sufficient air, heat and filter. I found a multi pack of CLEAR! :D different sized clips with suction cups for each and stick them on the inside, just cos its easier than having to undo cable ties every time I clean heater/ filter. Fairly sure aquarium sealant will work fine, but if the hole is still a little tight the movement will probably unseat it fairly quick, as it did with my suckers frequently before I drilled hole out!

Cured silicon is safe, waiting for it to cure will be interesting.
Pithy - hmm a few people were getting pithy in this thread.
( reading as if mike tyson said it :)

silicon is fine

don't use wd40 on or near aquariums.
LOL! I didn't take the WD40 comment as serious. ;) I know about toxins. I won't use bleach products or essential oils in my apartment as both can be toxic to my cockatiel. Thinking of toxins one should always research before feeding new food to a pet. For example here are a couple of toxins one would not expect. Grapes are toxic to dogs. Avocado can kill a cockatiel in a heartbeat.

I'll probably use silicone as I want to be able to remove if necessary. I have super glue but don't want to use for a couple of reasons.
1) A lot harder to remove without causing damage to the hood.
2) The tank is under warranty and there would be no way to remove the super glue without leaving signs of modification. Silicone I can just peel off. Not all that worried about the warranty in relation to the actual tank as, normally, they either leak right away or are fine but I want to keep the hood warranty intact. This is also why I don't want to drill holes or modify cutouts.

use the silicon outside too because the fumes are bad for you and your bird.
