Is he going to die?!

He seems to be doing a little better as far as being active goes. I will try to pick up some different meds this weekend, I don't know if I can get out tomorrow but I will try as hard as I can. I don't want to lose him. :-(

His gravel and decor are from a cycled tank so I am pretty sure it is cycled. I just do 80% water changes for him anyway because his fins are pretty torn up and I want to keep the water as sparkling clean as I can for him. I would let you call me but my mom blocked the phone from calling any long distance or having any long distance called here unless you have the passcode. :/  I kind of ran up a HUGE phone bill of around...ehh....$400.00 when one of my ex boyfriends moved to Penslyvania. I haven't been able to call long distance in a long time. :p

Okay so I changed his water again as the microsword was growing some stringy white stuff on it and it didn't look to healthy, when I pulled it out of the water is stunk really bad! So I threw it away and changed his water again. I lowered his water level a little so it is at about 5 inches deep. He is looking really bad and I am so worried about him. :-(

You're pretty sure it's cycled? :/

So you've done a complete cycle on it then (usually 1-2weeks legnth of time)? Checked the Ammonia levels, NitrIte levels, and NitrAte levels? And all are in the correct parameters? -_-

How much salt did you use, and how much water did you add it to?

How warm/cool was/is his tank water?

How warm/cool was the salt dip?

Does anyone else think that a 100% water change, completely dousing the gravel and any other decs in a whole mess of salt and soaking them a bit in scalding hot water & salt solution, then rinsing them and then putting him back in with only a few inches of water and brand new sparkly water sounds good?

That's probably what I'd do at this point.

You'll of course lose the whole cycling bit, but at this point I think I wouldn't care at all - I'd just be doing what I could to get him better.

How is he doing this morning???

 I just went out a bought a 1 gallon tank that is supposed to be for two bettas  But I transferred my tiny female in there she is about an inch in length and I put the male betta in the 2 gallon bowl after I cleaned it real well with hot water and he has new gravel new plants new everything! The water has no meds nor salt.

I went to look for meracyn 2 but they were all out. :dunno: They said they could order some for me but it might take a week.

What should I do?

yes the tank is cycled and the am is 0 ni is 0 and na was 5 when I checked and I added 2 tablespoons to about 5 gallons of water for 20 minutes. The water was the same temp as his main tank water at about 78F.

If all you added was 2 tbsp to 5 gallons...the salt isn't what is causing him to stress...there wasn't enough there to cause any stress really.

Maybe the smaller tank will make him happy.

Hopefully. Then I am going to buy a divider and stick it in his 10 gallon so I can have two males instead of one.

After he gets healthy though.

Is there anything I can make a divider out of? :dunno:

If you have a standard 10 gallon glass tank, you can buy little divider kits at ( ) WalMart, if you shop there. I don't, but that's beside the point.

i've also seen them at other stores, too.
They're really cheap too.

Well I went to walmart today and there were no didviders, I also went to a LFS near my house and they didn't carry them either. :dunno:

Where do you live?

Okay, sooo....
If you live in the US, I'd be willing to set aside my hatred of WM for one day to pick you up a divider and send it to you.

Because I need another excuse to check out the bettas there, you know.

-_-

Yea, I live in the US. I found a piece of plastic that fits in the tank perfectly as a divider. Would that work? :dunno:

The male betta is doing well in the fish bowl so should I treat him with the melafix still or salt or what? :dunno: Or just wait until I can get some meracyn 2 this weekend?

You'll wanna make sure that you can secure that piece of plastic - and I"m not sure how you'd do that without some kind of glue that'd be harmful for them (unless you happen to have some silicon for tanks on hand)

If he's doing pretty well in the fish bowl, go ahead and get him some melafix - it certainly won't hurt him.
Then when you get the maracyn 2, I'd give him a 100% water change and start medicating him with the M2 at that point.

A tiny pinch of salt won't hurt him either.

And, as I said - I'd be more than willing to go to WM (I heard thru the grapevine that there's a cellophane there right now) tonight.

Well there is still one more LFS about 10-20 minutes away and they have the best selection and I will be going there this weekend. I will finish up my male betta on his melafix (until Sat.) and then do a 100% water change and treat him with the meracyn if I can find it. If not, I guess I'll just pay shipping and the cost of the meracyn from you. :D I already glued it to the tank with silicon that I bought from the LFS awhile ago to fix a small leak in one of my tanks.
