I just got a $10 1-gallon acrylic tank for one of my bettas. It came with the little UGF system you've probably seen, but I didn't plan on using it. There are two small holes in the hood - one for feeding and one for the air line tube. It just occurred to me that even though bettas gulp their air, he may not get access to enough (any?) oxygen with only the two holes. I was hoping to keep things simple so if it is indeed to little oxygen, maybe I can just stick the air line tubing in the water a little bit to give it some air... but that doesn't make much sense, either, if he isn't getting air from the water anyway.

Help?

It shouldn't e a problem unless they are very tiny holes. They live in the cups in pet stores with nothing more than pin sized holes in their cups. If you do decide to use the air hose, it would be fine as you would be pumping air into the open area above the water since the air bubbles would burst on the surface.

wow.. i just got a 1 gallon tank today from walmart but it was $15. does it have a pink, blue,or purple top and bottom? well anyway..bettas get there air from the surface they come up every once in a while to get a gulp of air. as long as its a wide top its ok even wwith the 2 little holes. mine came with a bubbler to and a gravle filter but i hate those gravle filters..so i diddnt use it i didnt use the bubbler either for 2 reasons.. 1 its pointless in a betta tank. 2 the current drove him crazy..

an idea would be if you want filtration in those, is to buy some ilter sponge material, small one(for 1 gall could possibly try the Aquaclear media sponges) and poke hte UG tube in them, use hte air pump that it came with and voila, an easy to build and maintain filter....

I've got a bubbler in my 15 gallon sorority tank and some of the girls like to get in the middle of it and ride the bubbles to the surface.... weirdo fishies.....

It sounds like my betta's tank, only his is a 2 gallon hexagon. But it has the hole for feeding and the hole for the airline tube. He gets plenty of air. I do have the air pump/air stone/UGF up and running. My betta is weird and likes the current it makes.

likewise but i run an elite sting ray on mine which i adjsuted so it doesnt bother mien at all, othersie jsut a small hole for hte airlie and he gets plenty of air, but the lids loose so air seeps in thru all the crevices
