Hi, I just bought my first (3) Bettas this past week. The one I have at my office in a 1 gallon filtered tank is so funny. He races around when he sees me coming and darts up to the hole in the lid (he thinks he's gonna get fed). Most of the time he is pretty active...swimming around, but sometimes the fins go down and he just sits in the plant or on the bottom. Is this normal?? Do Bettas rest??

i'm no expert, but i'm pretty sure that it's normal for betta's to rest. all of mine do it when they aren't busy flaring at something or exploring the tanks.

i think that as long as you don't see anything visible wrong with them (white spots, flamed gills, fungus's...etc) then it's probably fine.

Yes, bettas do rest belive it or not heehee. My bettas will start flaring @ one another for a while and just give up and rest for a while then go @ it again. Also, very normal for a betta to rest for a while when getting over ich. Bettas do need nap time (Um, nap time brb).

the only time to worry when a betta is at the bottom of the tank, is when they are there for long periods of time, and don't bother moving when being fed, or their bowl is being moved.. then you've got a problem :/

yes its very normal i always see my ct sitting there acting chill. they gotta rest for once in a while

Well with those long tails that they all get stuck with (lucky plakats :p ) they get tired trying to swim around lugging those huge fins. My female is lucky she isn't a male

Cool! I'm glad my little guy is acting normal. I have (3) 1 gallon tanks with Bettas in them. My active one is in the 1 gallon with filtration and he seems the most happy. The other two with static water just seem to relax more...it's weird. Thanks for all the info!!
