Is an airstone a good idea?

I've had my aquarium running since last October. It's planted up and the fish & plants seem to be doing OK. What is the benefit (or is there any benefit) of having an airstone, and if so, do you have any recommendations for my size of aquarium?

Thanks

Andy :D

No extra benefit if your filter causes surface agitation. If you have plants then an airstone is not generally reccomended.

My filter outlet (? right terminology?) is positioned so that it does cause surface disturbance of the top of the water, and it's quite powerful, so I guess I'm not going to rush out and buy an airstone.

Thanks Jon (again!).
