I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank. The fish inside are:
Black Ghost Knife
Pleco
Pictus
2 Bala sharks
3 silver dollars

They are all young and the largest is the Black ghost knife at 5-6 in.
I think that i need to have a wet dry for the future for these fish, maybe even a bigger tank eventually. Do i need the Wet dry?
I am probably going to make the wet dry myself out of a 10 gallon spare tank. Any suggestions how to make it? and the overflow?

i forgot to add that i have a whisper 60 hang-on filter now

Wet dry filters are not needed , just go with one of the ehiem normal range cheaper and do the job well still.
You will need a bigger tank 5x2x2 for the Black Ghost knife fish. The bala sharks need to be in groups and could possibly live in the 5x2x2 but i'd go with 6x2x2 .
Silver Dollar's need to be groups also.
if the plec is a common i'd get 5x2x2 / 6x2x2 for housing it.

For the filter you want 5x turnover of the total tank volume.

What kind of overflow design should i build? What kind of pump?
