Is A Heater Nessesary?

Since cold water fish in their natural habitat, do experience seasons (winter, for example) would a heater be nessesary in an outdoor tank or a pond? I'm in Houston, btw, it doesn't get *too* cold.

I dont think you need a heater unless the water is pretty shallow and temps get well below freezing. What types of fish are you keeping and size of the tank/pond?

Many people don’t heat there ponds during winter I think it's mainly the serious koi keepers heat there ponds through winter

Oh..I don't have a pond or anything...but I was thinking about it...thats why I asked. Thanks for the replies!

you do not need a heater in the pond as long as its over a meter deep in one place
