hello everybody, i have just turned the temp up on my platies 12 gallon tank to 26 degrees there is one male and one female.
is this a good temp for breeding platies?
also as i said before on previous topics last night my platies were following each other last night and almost breeding so i have turned the temp up because this morning i looked and they wernt bothered about each other.
please help. :S

That sounds like a fine temperature. However you may want to think about adding another female. As only having one female and one male, this will stress the female out very much.

thanks, the male seriously doesnt chase the female they just lie around the the tank not boethered about each other.
As you may of heard in my previous topics, my platies hav never had babies and i have had experience with them for about 2 years now.
i havnt even seen them mate. :-(

Hmmm that's interesting. Well you could also try water changes once a week. The change in water sometimes helps; also if you don't see them getting more excited in a week her i'd increase the temperature up to at least 80F degrees. I know that should get them going for sure. My friend who is breeding platies has turned their temp. to that and they went crazy.

Best of Luck!! :good:

The only time i had babies from platies was when i got them from the LFS and the change of water or temp must have spurred her on a bit. I was quite proud to see one survive in my community tank and almost grow to full size until i had a PH crash  bit upsetting i have to say :(

thanks i will take up that water change once a week, does it have to be de neuttralised so there are no nastys in it eg nitrate

What ph do you have platyfanatic?
Platies (or so i've heard)'ll breed in most conditions.
But if you want them to really thrive you need hard water.
If they are very inactive i'd check my tank stats and look for signs of illness...

Well you add your water conditioner as usual. Just do about 15%-20% water change, nothing major just a bit to change up the water. If your water from the tap is really bad in nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia readings, you could neautrilize it a bit.

ok will do, i always treat my water anyway before i put it in.
thanks for the advice everyone.
i dont really know what ph i have to be honest.
