I recently made a slate cave and noticed that where I split the slate it has turned a brownish colour after being placed in the tank.

I read somehwere on here that slate can contain iron deposits - if that is the case, will the resulting rust (which I presume has caused the brown/orangey colour on the slate) cause an issue within the tank?

Ive had brown (rusty) slate in my tank before and it didnt do any thing and it was in for a bout a year but i also did hear it can be bad, so ill let someone else who knows a bit more about it give you a definate answer

I have had a large piece of slate in my tank for many years with a vein of what looks like rust in it with no problems.

sounds promising so far!

Anyone got a definitive on this one way or the other?
