Anyone got one?

I am really trying to justify my self spending £350 odd on a phone..I mean I understand its more than just a phone, but yikes £350!

Obviously if I were to get one, it would come under the label of 'Xmas'..

Basically, anyone got one? What do you think of them? Pro's/Con's?

Thanks, D.

trust me, a camerea with no video recording, 30 second ringtones, i was gonna get one but i went for an ipod touch instead, its all the same minus camera and phone.
and no bluetooth for pairing with devices, only with a headset

How about a HTC Touch HD..?

A real Iphone rival and excellent for IM & push email / browsing and all that but also unlike the Iphone it will run more than one program at once
Also, if you like messing with your phones you can go to XDA developers and tweak & customize to your hearts extent I am sure they will have an Iphone interface on the thing sooner or later they already did the Xperia interface see here! Iphone possibly slicker interface and slightly more responsive (capacitive vs resistive on HTC but htc can use gloved hands or stylus iphone can't) but the HTC has a larger, higher resolution display.

I should be eligible (fingers crossed) on Orange contract for a free upgrade in February can't wait

iphones are in many ways using such old tech nowadays - i would have had one years ago, when they came out, however, from a personal point of view, i'd like to have a good camera, and good quality vids, both of which cannot be found on the iphone. Its also a strange sized phone compared to a lot out there, and in terms of memory over an ipod, it doesnt compared, i think the biggest iphone is 16gb, ive used that up already on my ipod so it wouldnt even hold my tunes.

i know i sound anti iphone, the truth is, im not, i wish it had been the phone we'd been dreaming of, which in my opinion, it isnt, its getting there, but in mind, they are not quite there yet.

Due to wanting a good camera (5mpx) and dvd like vids, i went with the n95, which has been a great lil phone, which has now been superceded. i think we are now up to 8.2mpx cameras nowadays, so the iphone, has quite a bit to catch up on.

these are the reasons i didnt get one - im sure others will say its the best phone they have had, in my opinion, maybe in a couple of years.

The iPhone sucks pure and simple (for many reasons which I wont bother listing). If you want a media player buy an ipod (or a creative mp3 player) I hate apple but I must admit I do love my 80gb ipod. If you want a touch phone the HTC touch is good (I have the touch dual) but its windows mobile (and hence will crash fairly often). Depends what you really want it for I guess.

Personally I now have a BlackBerry bold and love it to bits. Not as pretty as my touch and form factor wise its massive but it does everything so well (internet, email, applications, all easy to set up and very smooth). I can do all that with my touch as well but its just not as simple (I have always been a fan of pocket PC's so it took a lot to convert me :) ).

If you look at BlackBerry's avoid the "storm" (9000) the touch screen on it is rubbish.

So yeah for music get am ipod+normal phone, for a gadgety phone with a touch screen and media capabilities get a HTC touch and for internet/email and ease of use get a BlackBerry (also pretty capable as a media player if you get a newer one that supports 8gb cards).

One outsider you might want to check out is the G1 Android phone (Google phone, believe you can only get from t-mo at the moment though). Runs on an OS called android (which is completely open source) works much better then the iPhone and I recon will have a big future ahead of it.

Edit: Agree with the poster above as well the Nokia N95 and N98 is a very good phone indeed. Very capable music player, great solid phone and some nice features. Cant do quite as much with it as you can a windows mobile device or a blackberry (in terms of applications) but if you just want a good phone and media player with a halfway decent camera then this is a good choice (I have yet to see a phone that has a really good camera though to be honest, if you want a good camera you still need to buy a camera :) the N95 one aint bad though for having something "on the go").

By the way I develop applications and hardware for mobile phones so I get chance to play with a lot of them (mostly before they are released) and the ones above I would say really are the best you can get right now.

I think the HD is a very capable music player with 3.5mm jack, only thing that lets it down badly is the external speakers but who uses these apart from 12 year old kids at the park! I guess the camera isn't great HTC seem to think a flash isn't necessary for some reason

XDA will do a heck of a lot with this phone me thinks and get far more out of it than the manufacturers have!

Sorry to be a killjoy, but I love my iPhone, even though the camera is not good, as a phone and an application library, it's brilliant!
Would not go back to a normal phone now.
