Both carrot and potato take 24-48 hours to soften up. Panaque don't seem that interested in them until that happens. You can also try other frozen veg you have to hand. Broccoli works well, though again, this may take a couple of days to soften up.

Is there a good way to soften up the veggies quicker? I know blanching ca cause the lose of vitamins, and other ideas?

likw neale said the potatoe took twos days to soak before anyone went near it and then overnight it was devoured, unfortunately i didnt see eitehr pleco at the potatoe but niether have moved very far away from it so on the part i am hoping that they would rather wait around for the food till it softens up.

unfortunately the pleco kicked the bucket this morning, fairly gutted because it had started to put the weight back over the last few days after it found it had a likening for potatoe,
off on holidays for two weeks on friday so will look at replacing him when i come home,
not sure if i will get another royal or something similar so if anyone has any suggestions let me know

once again thanks to all who offered advice and tips in this thread
