Good morning. I stumbled across this website and forums and after browsing a bit decided that this looked like a good list for a sort of beginner in the world of tropical fish keeping.
My name is Deb and I live just north of Calgary Alberta Canada. This is my second foray into the world of fish keeping. About 12 years ago my husband and I had a couple of small community tanks when we lived in the Maritimes. I have been very involved in various dog sports with my three dogs and we also share our home with a cat. Before Christmas I decided this might be a good time of year to get back into the hobby. I started with a 10 gallon tank and was having so much fun setting it up that I decided to also added a 20 gallon a few of days ago.
The 10 gallon is in the cycling process and has 3 black skirt tetras. I was advised that these were pretty hardy fish and good to start. Hope that's true but they do seem to be doing just fine. The readings on the tank are all really good with just a little cloudiness in the tank. I understand this is normal as the bacteria establish themselves and should clear shortly. The 20 gallon was set up a couple of days ago and I added 3 zebra danios yesterday. This tank will end up with either gouramis or cichlids - I haven't decided yet but won't be adding for a couple of weeks. The 10 gallon will continue to be a small community tank.
I look forward to gathering lots of information from the other posters.
