Hello, I have a 5 gallon (19 litre) tank with 5 variatus platys in. (I know some people will say “that’s too small get a bigger tank” but I believe they are happy and have plenty of room to swim (I will provide pictures))
Anyway, all of my fish are females. Two are fully grown and are called Rhubarb and Custard, Rhubarb is black and orange and Custard is yellow and orange but started to get black markings. My next two are a bit smaller and they are called Bunny and Susan (named by my 7 year old sister) and they are both black and orange. My last one is 5 months old and called Tad and I’ve raised her since she was born, she’s grey but starting to get black markings and a orange tail.
Only two of my fish have died over the time of 10 months I have been doing this. One cause was that the filter stopped working in my old tank and the nitrate levels did rise but I managed to get them back down in a day by doing a 50% water change. And the other cause was unknown (the water was fine after testing but she was a runt so I assume it was from difficulties).
I love my fish dearly and I care for them the best I can. I recently bought a new tank, the same size as the last one and have cycled it till the water was great then added the fish. They are more lively and swim around in the bubbles from the overhead filter. (I do have some snails but they were breeding a lot so I moved them to another tank)
And that is it, thank you for reading.
