Just wondering if anyone here has some personal tricks they like to use when introducing new fish to their tanks. I'm not new to the concept of floating them for a while to equillibrate temperature, then adding a little bit of water to the bag they come home in to equillibrate them, and eventually placing them in the tank. I guess I struggle most with the adding water part to the bag. Since the things are soft I find it tough to dip the edge of the open bag below the waterline and actually get water to flow into the bag. Any tricks for doing this, or something I'm missing?

I just cut a small hole in the bag and then hook the knot of the bag to something on the rim of tank - or a clothes peg will do. Just make sure the hole you cut is fairly small and add water with a small jug to the bag.

That should do the trick.

Remember to keep tank lights off as this can stress new fish. I generally keep mine off for at least 30 minutes after adding new fish.
Feeding your existing fish at the same time as releasing new fish will distract them for a little while and provide the new fish with a few minutes to find their way around their new surroundings - without being too harassed by the existing fish.

When adding bottom dwellers, it's a good idea to move a log or cave - thus giving equal opportunity to new and old alike and finding a "new home". As some fish can be a bit territorial.
But that's all a bit more than you asked for really :)

I just use a plastic drinking cup to pour water in. I have some 9 oz cups so I know how much water I'm adding each time I add water. Just pour it slowly in the top of the bag. I say slowly because you obviously don't want to dump a full cup of water on your new fish and harm them.

Wow, cant believe I didnt think of either of those, lol . Thanks guys, that'll make my life easier when it comes time to populate my tank :D
