Interview At Lfs Tomorrow

Sso the interview went well i think. i was asked to come back monday and do a demonstration on how to setup a freshwater tank and explain the process of the nitrogen cycle. he told me if i was hired i would be the aquatic specialist manager, training new employees and such. he also told me i would be the 3rd most important member in the store.

Needless to say I'm excited!

Basically what he is telling you is "You got the job, But i want to see your not just talking crap to get the job"

Congrats will be in order mate, Trust me on this ;)

Well done :)

Are you going to tell people they need to fishless cycle their tanks for 6 weeks or risk a fish in cycle?

James

Of course, james.

I'm a little nervous. The presentation is in front of the store manager as well as district store manager. The position isn't a sales associate position, it's a management position, as I would be the overseer of the aquatics department.

What gets my nerves going is the store manager was an aquatic specialist for 12 years before he moved higher up in management. I understand I'm explaining something very basic, but regardless, every time I think about I feel like puking!

I am so nervous, I'm hoping my nerves don't get the best of me as I really need a job.

Just stay calm, At the end of the day you know what you are talking about and that will show when you do the presentation :)

So just be yourself be talkative and confident but not cocky or too in your face. And they will love you :)

Honestly mate, you will nail it. Dont worry :)

Thanks, plates.

I have my speech prepared in a little notebook, to combat my nerves I'm going to bring it with me and kinda read from it, but not so much word for word. Just to help ensure I don't forget something important, or make any mistakes.

I am quite excited, wish me luck all, I will be back in a few hours and post the results. My spirits will be a bit low if all I get is a "We will be in touch" but I am hoping to at least fill out some paperwork.

Oh well, though, it won't be the end of the world!

He offered me the job! He will be contacting previous employers and doing a background check. Hopefully they have a nice word to say! Overall I am content regardless, if my background disqualifies me there will always be more fish in the sea, and I proved I have knowledge of those fish!

Ironically, he asked me what my stance was on LFS selling fish to people who don't have a clue about the nitrogen cycle. He asked me what I would do if somebody wanted to buy fish and told me that their tank had been running for 24 hours.

I told him I would suggest hardy fish, such as danios, and go for 1 fish per 5 gallons, instead of 1" of fish per 1 gallon. I told him I do not feel comfortable selling delicate fish or large stockings and that I would advise them to go with a hardy species while reading up on the nitrogen cycle. I did note though that it is a business, and as much as I would hate to see a customer come back with a previously beautiful, now dead fish, I would make the sell.

He offered it to me after htat. :)

Well done mate :) im sure your background checks will wor out alright :D i told you you would nail it :D Id buy you a pint if i was there haha :D

Congratulations!

Background check?
Lets hope your last job wasnt in a chippy!

Congratulations! Maybe you can talk the big boss into letting you hand out flyers on the nitrogen cycle

Hey, well done!!!! Over the moon for you. I bet your face is beaming now, eh?

Hope you really enjoy working there. If only more young guys had the same determination and drive to succeed as you do. Unfortunately, too many can't be bothered to get out of bed LOL. I knew you wouldn't be unemployed for long!

All best wishes - let us know how things go - Athena

Thanks everybody :)

I start today at 2:30. The man who hired me, the store manager, was an aquatic specialist for seven years before he was promoted to store manager. We talked a lot about things such as the nitrogen cycle and he is obviously educated and a believer, but again, it is ultimately a business standpoint, which I can understand.
