Hi, unfortunately my Interpet PF2 (internal filter) just stopped working last night, (which is gutting as I really like that filter!), and it's possible that I will get a Fluval 2 as a warranty replacement.
Are the Fluval 2's any good?

Cheers :)

out of most internals i think the fluvals are some of the best, all my tanks run them as they don't make any sound! the one you have i bet used to make a lot of sound right? i had a pf1 which was noisy as hell, replaced it with a fluval 2+ and all sound was pretty much eliminated

Thanks for your reply Razer.

Actually my PF2 was pretty much silent, I certainly couldn't hear it over the bubbles in the tank, which was one of the things that was worrying me. I've read so many reports of people with internal filters that are noisy, changing mine to something 'unknown' was worrying.

How is the filtering in it? Does it have sponges and bio-media? I think I was spoilt with the PF2, in that it has sponges, floss, and also ceramic noodles just before the impeller chamber.

From what I've been able to find, (very little), it seems the Fluval only has sponges in it?

erm no lol my fluvals all came with everything yours came with! each of mine has 2 sponges, 1 either side with space for carbon pads and filter floss in between, i of course took these out and only use them when i need to :)

I thought mine had gone the other day so I emptied it of water, reassembled and put it back in the tank, and it started working again.

Well I took the PF2 back to the LFS today, and they confirmed it had mysteriously died.
As an exchange unit I didn't get the Fluval 2+ that I thought I would get, but got the newer Fluval U2. Only just put it in the tank, but it seems quite good, 2 filter sponges, room for 2 floss / carbon (I just removed the carbon and shoved extra floss in), and then ceramic noodles in a chamber in the centre. :good:
The only thing I do miss is that I can't 'aim' the water outlet, it is fixed straight ahead. At the moment I am using the 'spray bar' setting as that seems to give decent flow, and does at least allow a slight choice in 'spray' direction :)

Is it the 2+ that you have, or the U2?

ive also got a fluval U2 lol (yes fluval mad me) i find this to be pretty darn quiet to, and my one I'm able to add a little clip that aims the water? do you not have this?

Do you mean the little black 'crash helmet' looking thing?
I tried using that, but to be honest found it made little difference to the outflow? On my old filter I was able to actually swivle the output port throught perhaps +/- 30 degrees from the straight, so maybe it's just that that used to be really 'aimable' and the U2 is not so.

yes i mean that thing, you know you can turn it more to make an impact right?

As in sort of screw it left or right on the front of the pipe? The 2 'crash helmets' were loose in the box when I got the filter, so I've snapped them onto the pipes, but even rotating them doesn't seem to affect the flow?

no you dont rotated them, it looks like you screw them on but really those threads are there so you can click the flow thing into a different direction,
