Hi all
am thinking of getting a fluval u4 filter. was wondering has anyone used it , any good , wot i would also like to no more than anything is am getting a new tank about 200l , i no it says it ok upto 240l so shouldnt have a problem ? but ot i was going to do was use it in my present tank which about 100 litres . my tank now needs new filter getting noisey. would that filter over filter my present tank or can you not over filter ?

thanks in advance :good:

I use the Fluval 4 plus, it's fantastic, really pleased with it. Very quiet as well.

~I have a U4 and I find it pretty good. It is quite big, but I suppose it needs to be to handle 240L.

I personally wouldn't use it for a 200L tank, depending on your stocking though. I'd more than likely go for something that handles 300+ ltrs. Especially if you're thinking of having pleco's.

And no, you can't really over filter.

hi
not having plecs got some in this tank and want to get rid of them. prob just have small and colourfull fish.
any recommendations then thanks.. would prefer internal one if poss.

thanks

I used the u3 in a 85 litre, so the same but smaller. Worst filter I've ever had. Constantly rattling and grinding despite frequent de-gunking of the impellor etc. My biggest gripe with it was just how much wasted space is in them, could've fitted far more media in than it allows.

After 6 months I switched to using two old faithful Fluval 2 Plus filters instead. Took up more room but was happier with the performance.

Still, on the plus side it's always easy to find the (overpriced) media replacements, etc.

You can't overfilter so I would say get the largest capacity that fits in the tank.

hi

thanks for that may look at getting 2 smaller filters or is that false economy ?? considering am getting a bigger tank ?
sorry for all these questions

Well I wasn't suggesting you run two smaller ones as such, more an example of how unimpressed I was with the U series, enough to make me run two smaller ones instead until I upgraded. Have a Juwel tank now with the built in internal, will add an external when I find one that's virtually free.

Chances are you'll be happy enough with the u4. I found it overrated but I am picky.

Try and look at getting an external for your size tank, much better filtration!

I've got the U3 in my 90 litre and i'd personally say it's a pretty good filter, quiet too as the fish tank is right next to the bed (so close it touches the bed).

Agree with going for the external though, they're so much easier to handle too.
I end up with loads of water all over the place when im taking my internal out for a clean!

I'm jealous, my u3 gave me many sleepless nights!

The flip top lid for 'mess free' access was also a load of rubbish, I'd get water all.over too.

So. In short, for a tank that size, external all the way
