I've got a thread running in NW about my new 370L CA cichlid setup - eventual stocking list should look like this:

Sajica
Rainbow Cichlid
Rotkeil Sev
Nicaraguan Cichlid
Pim pictus

For the first time in memory my long suffering better half, having seen the new tank setup in all it's glory actually expressed an interest and suggested adding a plec (her exact words being, "what about one of the suckery things?") In principle I don't have a problem with the idea, but my experience of plecs so far has been that they hide out of sight 99% of the time, and that only the expensive ones are interesting patterned.

I suspect my opinion is inaccurate so I wondered if anyone has some suggestions worth considering?

a nice big Royal plec would look ace in there and they are great to see when they docome out.I love plecs

Definately tick's the unusual box - they're hideous, though in an oddly appealing way.

I have to admit I've never got into plecs, despite having been round to have a look at a former members plec collection several times...well, Zebra's being the exception. They're gorgeous but well out of my price range.

I;m not a zebra fan. I like the big ugly brutes like Royals which look alien like when bigger and the pseudas

personal choice would be a Flash Pleco or as said a Royal,

Although I do like the Peckoltia plecs whcih can mostly be purchased for under £20, with Peckoltia vittata being one of the nicer IMO,

if your tank is suitable, rusty plecs get to a nice size, are generally cheaper than 'proper' expensive plecs, and i think they are very nicely patterned/coloured with black/beige patterned body and glorious rusty red fins. i tend to see a lot of him aswell.

mines only 5 inches or so, and the picture is rubbish but here he is

Out of the options mentioned, the Flash and the Sultan are the ones that appeal most. Which am I likely to see the most of?

couldnt comment on the flash as ive not owned 1 yet when i had my sultan i used to see it loads once it settled in.

It seems I've spoken too soon. My missus likes the look of Queen Arabesque firstly, Royal Plecos secondly. Since she's tolerated my hobby so far I'm inclined to oblige her.

That is a very attractive pleco. Will run it past SWMBO.

lol

As well as being attractive, you can find it as cheap as £15 :hyper:

Sultans are beautiful one of the best plec I have ever kept and the two I had were pretty active as well

I have 3 of the L-204 flash, beautiful fish but they eat wood and poop sawdust, very messy.

The L-134 leopard frogs are more carnivorous (and less messy) and look similar to the flash when they're small:
