Can anyone recommend a small plant that I can site towards the front of my tank that will spread laterally thus "carpeting" the front of my tank?

I'm looking for something with a touch of colour if possible, well not just plain green...

Thanks in advance.

***Edit***

When I say spread I mean via the roots (is the term "runners" correct?).

java moss is always good to covering something and it requires virtually no light. i have a feeling from the sound of your post you're not looking for the "plain jane" type plants. if you scroll down on this site http://www.fishpalace.org/Links.html there are a ton of good plant sites.

I've already been to the Tropica web site which is superb but "slightly" intimidating

Have you looked at the Plants Alive website?
On the right hand pane there is a link to request their free catalogue. I got mine through the other day, it's only a flimsy paper affair, but it does have a lot of plants listed in it, and all with a thumbnail picture as well. Good for choosing, and also for ID of any you've got and don't know the names for.
I'm intending to go through it one evening this week and put together my planting list for my new tank, (and then put it on here for comments :good: )

lol Thanks :good:

Not sure why it had an orange square (new posts) beside it then when I replied - lol
