Interbreeding?

becuse im asking if mollies are inbred or gentically modified or maybe there so inbred (the term you used) they physically cant breed. . .like some goldfish. i have bred a betta splendens before so i no they can breed but i also no of friends who idioticly have brought balloon rams that lay only infertile eggs

if you say so but i think if you did a little research on the net you will find alot more people agree with my one claim which i dont think is bogus to all your ill educated claims

Yes, that's a problem that we are suffering from, Mr. Perfect.

i dont have any info on balloon mollies i have only asked a question about them. im just not happy with your answer as i cant find anything to back it up. you could ask your friend if he has bred them and end this petty argument over your ego

They're not genetically modified, they are line bred (which is a form of inbreeding) to produce a desired trait (in this case a deformed spine).

There are some livebearers such as the sailfin Molly that are unable to reproduce as their fins don't allow them to, this is not the case for Balloon Mollies.

Ok i hear what you are saying but out of interest how do you no.........its just i have never heard of them breeding in aquaria but it is possible that im wrong

yES I AM QUITE AWARE HOW AQUARIUM FISH ARE BRED AND I AM QUITE AWARE THAT MOLLIES ARE BRED FOR ALL THERE DIFFERENT COLOURS BUT THE POINT I AM GETTING AT AND THE THING I WOULD LIKE TO NO IS HAS ANY ONE ACTUALLY BRED A BALLOON WITH A NORMAL LOOKING MOLLY. NOT ALL FISH YOU BUY IN THE SHOPS ARE BORN THROUGH NATURAL CAUSES, LOADS OF AQUARIUM FISH ARE ARTICIALLY INSEMINATED OR BRED THROUGH HORMONE TREATMENTS OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT. CAN ANY 1 SAY THAT THEY HAVE ACTUALLY WITNESSED THE TWO FISH BREEDING JUST BECUASE IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE IN THEORY DOESNT MEAN IT TECHNICALLY IS POSSIBLE

I think you already had caps lock on when trying to capitalise "y". Hence the "y" being small and the rest of the drivel capitals.

Balloon mollies actually can breed and its been done in many home and store aquariums. If you do some research you will find than not only can these fish breed, but there are quite a few fish that can breed despite human intervention causing deformities. You claim that most hybrids are sterile is completely false as my platy/swordtail hybrids are having healthy babies monthly. The only livebearers that I know of that have the issue with breeding due to various parts being to big or in the way, refers to lyrtails, as their 'wing dang doodle' is too long

I used to work in an LFS, they were breeding all the time.
ou

Well thankyou for finally answering the question but if you said that earlier when i asked how do you no they can breed you could of saved me and yourself alot of time

i was refering to tropical fish in general like balloon rams, parrotfish, ballon mollies, even some fancy new colour /long finned cichlids, fancy goldfish. things like that. im quite aware how prolific breeders liverbears can be. hybreds was the wrong word although i no parrot fish are hybrids.
i wasnt aware balloon of iny cases of ballon mollies breeding but now i am. i just didtn no if they have to be bred like alot of tropical fish using hormone treatments

Most tropical fish do not need hormone treatments. There are some that are difficult to breed, and captive breeding requires hormones, and that is mainly because we cannot duplicate the perfect conditions required. Really has nothing to do with the fish itself. Like clown loaches for instance.
