Hi everyone, my first post and straight into a disaster!! possibly, had this ruby shark, a male, for around 5 months, and he seems in perfect health, apart from the gaping hole thats appeared in his side!!! eating well and behaviour seems normal, and the only possible aggressor is a pleco, only 4 inches, or an apple snail!!! but cant find anything to suggest a disease it might be?? watter parameters are absolutely fine, 0, 0, trace, so any ideas would be of great assistance!!!

Thanks, James

I have no clue what it could be...
Try posting a link to this topic in "Tropical Discussion" since it gets 10x more traffic

I've heard of this in goldfish/pond fish,i think its a bacterial infection, maybe caused by poor water conditions.

I see you only do a 20% change every 3-4 weeks...

If not treated it may affect the whole tank.

I may be wrong,so best wait for someone more knowledgeable to come along...

Also replied to other post.

Looks like an ulcer to me, treat with a Bactericide such as Waterlife MYXAZIN.
