How do I grow my own Infusoria and I heard lettuce is used, can cabbage be a replacement?

1) Get old tank water
2) Put old tank water in a jar
3) Put jar in Sunlight

I use spinich leaves, brought to the boil and left to stand outside to cool.
Your rearing recpticle should be washed clean with boiling water, use no detergents. (It is also beneficial to use de-chlorinated water for culturing infusoria/Paramecium).
Place everything in the rearing recpticle (green water) and stand in a semi shaded place (not direct sunlight) every other day mix up a cup of powdered milk and add a few drops to the culture using a meat baster. Be careful not to overdo this last step as it can quickly foul the culture and wipe it out.
Cultures need to be set up on a rotational basis as the go off. So as you always have a supply of infusorians for the smallest of fish fry.

when u do all that do u put a lid on the jar or leave it without a lid until the culture grows ??

I only use loose fitting cover glasses.

But are cabbage leaves still alright?

And when do u know u got infusoria? can u see them?

I imagine cabbage leaves would have the same effect but can't be sure as I personally have never used them, try it and see, don't forget to post your findings.

Mine are quite visible as they dont swim about singlely but as a cloud if you like. A white mass near the surface. A small hand magnifying glass comes in handy as does a meat baster.

im stuck, cos i started to grow a culture two days ago, i used some tank water and put an old dried leaf in and now the water is greeny brown, i have spotted a very small white dot going round and roun di n a circle but my i sight plays tricks on me , how long are you supposed to wait before feeding them to the fish?? i jst fed them and they acted like they nether aw nuthin! please help me
